A Letter to the College Senior ’18

 In Inspiration, Lifestyle

Imagine how I felt this morning when I opened my inbox to see an email from my Alma Mater saying “Happy First Day of Classes!”. Weird. It felt weird. For every college senior out there, this will be your first of many “lasts.” The last first day of class, the last time scheduling, and the last time being in college.

Time seriously flies by. A year ago, as Facebook reminded me, I was kicking off my senior year with our toga party. Now I’ve already been at my job for 90 days and summer is ending! But I definitely made the most of those beloved four years and wouldn’t change anything. I met my best friends, my boyfriend, joined a sorority, a business fraternity, and numerous other clubs. I started my blog, grew my Instagram, and discovered my passions. Also, I grew monumentally as a person.

For all of you in your senior year, cherish it, because it goes extremely fast. As a recent grad, I feel that I still have relevant insights to the college life. Are there things I would’ve done differently? Maybe. But, do I have any regrets? Definitely not. Here are some pointers I learned along the way, and things that I’ve realized since reflecting on my college experience.  Hopefully these provide insight and inspiration for you and your friends 🙂

18 Thoughts for the Seniors of 2018

  1. Say yes to new things
  2. Stay up late with your girlfriends
  3. Meet new people every week
  4. Take chances and try out new things
  5. Visit your school’s career center
  6. Explore the city and surrounding areas
  7. Ordering late night food is always a good idea
  8. Try to do well in classes, senioritis is real but grades still do matter
  9. Make connections with professors, they can really help you in the future
  10. Don’t worry if you don’t have a job before graduation, it WILL work out
  11. Don’t sweat the small stuff, this is your last chance to have a relatively worry-free life
  12. Use your free time to volunteer. I fostered a puppy and it was the best experience ever
  13. Go out to eat at all of the best restaurants (you’ll miss having spending money)
  14. But, try to save some money for the future… Thank you, babysitting.
  15. Do what makes you happy. Don’t like frat parties? Stay in and have wine night
  16. Seek out your true friends. These people will be the ones you stay in touch with post-grad
  17. Go out during the week. Tuesday night trivia and karaoke ended up being my favorite things 🙂
  18. Enjoy your last year!

Work doesn’t end, but college does. Live it up, make mistakes, love your friends, and forgive yourself.

Xx,

Lauren

This is a great post. It’ll be interesting for you to go back 5, 10, 20 years and do this again to see how your thoughts change.
